Youth Action Plan on Promoting Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at Informal Settlements in Post-2015 Development Context We, the youth participating at Young Professional Shaping Post-2015 Development Agenda session focussed on Promotion of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Informal Settlements at Stockholm World Water Week 2014 affirm our commitments and dedication to promote Universal Access to WASH for all by 2030. Realizing the gap in existing Policies and Legal Frameworks, inadequate Financing Mechanisms and low Public Participation, we have identified following activities with their indicators for sustainable WASH promotion in informal settlements: a. Policy and Legal Framework i. Suggest, and push for, a government agency specially dedicated to informal settlements · Check if a legal body is established to look informal settlements issues · # of settlements addressed by such dedicated agency · # of petitions for government to improve WASH in Informal settlements ii. Strengthen access to information and public auditing at community level · # of Media involved in promoting transparency · # public policies formed iii. Bridging organizations with different levels in governance structure · # of community members participating iv. Strengthen collaboration between youth organizations and government · # of organizations collaborating · # of joint activities v. Support local councils and youth innovation · # of local youth councils formed · # of platforms created to promote youth innovation vi. Regulating water quality standards for informal settlements · # of supervision and monitoring visits organized · # of water quality samples examined b. Financing Mechanism i. Promote microfinance and crowd funding for youth-led entrepreneurships in WASH · Amount of money raised · # of successful projects ii. Develop a program that provides technical and financial mentorships for youth. · # of mentorship programs developed · # of organisations participating in the mentorship program · # of people in mentorship programme iii. Interconnect the suppliers and the settlements · # of targeted products/ community c. Public Participation i. Educate people of different sections at different levels through formal and informal education for safe and clean water and to end open defecation at local levels recognizing and identifying the cultural differences and understanding local systems. · # of people that has done a course · # of schools that have hygiene as part of their curricula · # of people ending open defecation ii.
