A young boy was walking along route 203 when he heard a voice call out, "Grief Squad!" The young boy panicked. He had just heard on the news that the city's new hero, Oscar Straight, had just beaten a bunch of gangsters senseless and the reporter called these gangsters "The Grief Squad". Fearing for his life, the young boy ran away as quietly as he could back into safety of the city.

Upon entering the city, the young boy bumped into an unknown figure. "Ouch! Sorry mister!" The young boy said as looked up at the man standing in front of him. "You better watch where you're going or next time I just might have to ask for compensation for my injuries." Oscar said annoyed. "Wha- You're Oscar Straight!" The boy exclaimed excitedly. "Yeah so?" Oscar said, now losing his patience. "I saw you on the news and how you took out those gangsters!" The boy said now jumping excitedly. "Really now?" Oscar said while looking smug. "Anyways, those gangsters are back Oscar! You gotta get rid of 'em!" The boy quickly explained. "Uuuh what? I mean, yeah I'll take a look. Where they at?" Oscar hesitantly asked. "They're over by route 203!" The boy said while pointing behind him. Leaving the boy behind Oscar started towards Route 203. "What the hell am I getting myself into?"

The three pokemon stood in a single file line facing Max. The trainer held his hands behind his back, as he finally intended to begin his squads initiation test.
"Attention squad, we have a day of work ahead of us!" He began what seemed it was going to be an eerily long speech. "Today, you're going to showcase your abilities and initiative without my input. For all you know, that could be crucial in the future." His sentences rolled off of his tongue in halves. Max turned towards his Chespin. "Brycen, you're up first, we need to strengthen that Seed Bomb of yours." Brycen nodded gleefully and prepped for battle. Before he could give his first command, he was interrupted by a voice calling from behind him.

Oscar heard a sound in one of the bushes as he walked through the route and thought maybe he should have a look. Oscar came crashing through the shrubbery, sticking true to his "Going with guns ablazing" motto immediately spotted another person with his pokemon. "HEY! HAVE YOU SEEN ANY SUSPICIOUS CHARACTERS AROUND HERE??"

Max turned to discover the source of the voice. He noticed, a guy with glasses exiting the bushes. The kids hair seemed scruffy, though Max would be quite the hypocrite if he were to mention it. He wore a blue T-Shirt, with a bag strapped over his right shoulder. He took a few seconds to consider the boys question before responding.
"Suspicious characters?" He responded with an inquisitive gleam in his eye. He was both intrigued and disinterested at the same time.

The guy in front Oscar seemed like a pretty straightforward guy, but his gut kept telling him that there was more to this guy than meets the eye. Oscar started analyzing the kid, but thought that just asking him would much quicker. Oscar took a few steps forward and puffed his chest out to try to intimidate the guy into giving him some answers. "Hey! Earlier a kid was talking about overhearing somebody calling themselves the "Grief Squad"! THAT YOU?" Oscar asked, still shouting.

After hearing his teamname, Max immediately grinned.
"Ha, Not only are the Grief Squad taking names, but we're gaining noteriety aswell. The way things are going we'll take over the world in no time." He clenched his fist and punched the air triumphantly. There was clearly a massive amount of pride being expressed by Max. the boy in front of him didn't seem to impressed by his response. "I take it you wanna try your hand against the best?"

After Oscar had asked his question his attention was immediately drawn to the starly behind the boy. Oscar could still hear the boy talking, but decided to ignore him and focus on the starly. " the best?" Oscar only heard the last part of the boy's question. "Hey! Bring out that starly! I wanna pound it into the dust!" Oscar said while reminiscing about his own starly that he had just released. "Go Kong!" Oscar sent out his chimchar.

Max was too self indulged to notice the boys fixation with his Starly. The boy had thrown out a pokemon, and that was all the response Max needed.
"Alright, fine, if you're in a hurry we can get it started now." Max groaned. He wasn't really prepared for a battle, he just wanted to gloat about his self-declared greatness. "Honestly I don't get why people rush so much." He yawned. He gestured with his head for Brycen to join the battle, the boy called out for him to send out his Starly instead. He stopped to think for a second, but complied. "Souf looks like you're up." The Starly chirped and strutted into the battle. The boy sent out a small fire monkey that Max didn't recognise it so he pulled out his poke'dex.
"Chimchar, the chimp pokemon." The poke'dex stated. "It agilely scales sheer cliffs to live atop craggy mountains. Its fire is put out when it sleeps." It continued to give a description of the pokemon. Max nodded.
"Fire type, huh, I've never been a fan of type advantages, so that works." He sighed appreciatively. He grinned and ordered his pokemon to make the first move.
"Starly, quick attack!"
