  •
  • Text to world connections
  • When they facilitate learning
  • When they add something positive to the learning environment.
  • When to open minds instead of closing them.

  • How do we rethink the curriculum, instruction, and assessment when the sum of human knowledge is in front of them?
  •
  • It's not just about accessing the information; it's about how to search for information that is relevant and how to filter the barrage of information that is out there.
  • The curriculum and instruction needs to be focused on giving students the tools to navigate - there is a terrible tendancy to go directly to wikipedia! We need to think about how to direct learners to on-line resources that will broaden their horizens and not simply overwhelme them with information.

  • How do we shift our mindset to Connected Learning: interest-driven, networked-minded, and production focused?
  •
  • We need to find effective ways to motivate learners to go beyond their facebook and x-box world in order to use technology as a learning tool. For many young people technology equates entertainment. I think the role of schools is to educate students in the other forms of technology available to them. We have to stop assuming that this generation is techno-savvy. They might be able to operate a few devices, but they really don't have a sense of the educational power of technology.

  • What do we want students to know (content knowledge), do (skills), think (habits of mind), and be (experiences & dispositions)?
